E.L.F. Makeup – $20 Challenge

October 18, 2012

Hey ya’ll. I wrote a post a few weeks back about my favorite beauty products and my all time favorite make up items and brands. My friend Amanda remarked that I sure have expensive taste. Ha! Normally, I don’t but make up really is one of those places where I think you should splurge on yourself a little. Also, my face breaks out pretty easily (I know, how old am I?) and I have found that it does not with higher end make up.

All that being said, I’m always on the lookout for a bargain and would love to find a more cost effective makeup that I also love.  When I heard about this $20 #eyeslipsface make up challenge (or E.L.F.) I was excited to see if I could not only do it but love it. Replace all of my make up for just $20? That seemed pretty impossible but stranger things have happened.

Before heading out to Walmart to do some shopping, I decided to check out elf cosmetics on eyeslipsface.com. What better way to find some things to try than to see what their best sellers are, they have it bookmarked at the top of the tabs.  Have you been over to the site before? I was so excited when I saw some of their options. They even have a new studio line with some really fun products. I even saw these lotion wipes I had seen in a magazine recently and wanted to try! I was also so excited to see this Plum cream eye liner. It was one of my favorite products at a different counter and they discontinued it.

My boys and I headed out to do some shopping and even though it took me a little while to find the E.L.F. line, I finally did. I was searching on the make up walls like the rest of the make up but it was in the middle aisle, on a display. You can see more of my trip over here. I was a little disappointed that more of the studio line was not in my store so I asked my customer service representative to start carrying more E.L.F. make up at our store (you should ask at your store too).

Ultimately, I had to look for more things to buy to meet my $20 challenge. I know, it’s a hard life. I bought the following:

Tinted Moisturizer ($3)
Translucent Matifying Powder ($3)
Volume Pumping Mascara ($3)
Blush and Bronzing Powder ($3)
Lipgloss Stick ($1)
Lipgloss tube ($1)
Shine Eraser Sheets ($1)
Foundation Brush ($1)
Eyeshadow Single ($1)
Eyeshadow Quad ($1)
Eyeshadow Brush ($1)
Eyeliner Pen, Coffee ($1)
Grand Total: $20

I would have loved a lip liner but could not find one in my color in stock. Next time for sure. The next day I got ready using my new ELF make up. I was pleasantly surprised that there was no smell to the foundation or powder. I’m super sensitive to smells on my face these days so I was super happy about that. Have you ever used a foundation brush? If not, run out and grab one of these $1 ones by ELF. It will change your whole look and you will love the even, smooth application it gives your face. And $1 for ELF every day cosmetics? Are you kidding me? Total steal of the century. I think the make up brushes are where ELF really shines. I mean, they are great brushes and most are only $1. I equally loved the eye shadow brush I grabbed.

Are you ready for a peak inside how I get ready? Well, I put my hair up in rollers and then put on my foundation and blush. While that is setting, I put on my eye makeup and then powder all over, even my lips. Next, come down the rollers andI finish off with my lipstick or gloss. I used the tinted moisturizer and matifying powder and loved the look it gave. Not heavy or cakey at all, but also plenty of coverage for my not so smooth skin. I took this picture 3 hours after application (and after a night of AWANA at church) and even though my phone quality is horrible, I still looked like I just put my make up on.

I think I’m still kind of in shock that I loved this so much. I think that especially in the summer, I will be turning to this tinted moisturizer. As far as the brushes go? I might just be hooked for life. I’m so excited to try some of the new ELF studio products in the near future.

Have you tried ELF make up lately? What do you love? Also, if you have questions for the ELF experts, you can ask them over here

Haha! I have friends that tell me that I have expensive taste when it comes to make up, perfume, and skin care. But I find those same people spend money on stuff I NEVER would as well. So I figure it all evens out. :) I am glad you did a review on E.L.F because I heard someone else say it was good, but she was a teen. :) And so I wondered if she just was happy to get some cheap make up. LOL! I find that I can usually get away with a less expensive version of eye shadow, as on me they all wear the same, but I need a better mascara, eye liner, and tinted moisturizer, preferably one with an SPF.  Thanks again!
