We moved to Northwest Arkansas just over 2 years ago, the last weekend of June in 2010 to be exact and one of the things I was most excited about was the Farmer’s market held on our town square just 5 minutes from my house! The only one I had been to before was down in Memphis and it was quite a drive from our little house in Southaven. From May to October, every Saturday morning (and a small one added on Wednesdays) we have a fantastic market with wonderful vendors providing everything from vegetables to beef to cheese to soaps – I love wandering through and seeing the new choices each week.
If you do have a market, I really encourage you to shop there for your produce needs. Grab enough to nourish you for the week (or to stock up and freeze for the off season!). This will not only benefit your family but it will also be a blessing to those local farmers and merchants that work so hard each week to stock their booth. Take your children with you, if you have any, and let them meet the local vendors – show them where real food comes from! You can even let them pick a new fruit or vegetable to try each week. You may just find a life long favorite together
Do you have a local Farmer’s Market in your area? If so, do you shop at it frequently?
